The Institute of Resource Ecology performs research to protect humans and the environment from hazards caused by pollutants resulting from technical processes that produce energy and raw materials.
The Department Reactor Safety is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) Radiation field simulations.
In the 2nd year there is the option of increasing the weekly working hours to 75%.
Your tasks
- Develop advanced methodologies for neutron transport simulation and activation analysis in far-reactor spaces, i.e. for concrete structures surrounding the reactor pressure vessel and machinery
- Verify and validate these methodologies using measurement data from commercial nuclear power plants
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences
- Prepare a dissertation as part of the PhD studies
Your profile
- Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) and excellent academic record in science, technology or related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in nuclear engineering
- Proficiency in technical computing and programming languages such as Fortran, Python, MATLAB, etc.
- Experience with Monte Carlo codes such as MCNP and Serpent
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team and in collaboration with interdisciplinary groups
- Creative thinking and robust problem-solving skills
